Drexel University

Founded in 1891 by financier Anthony J. Drexel, Drexel University holds a unique place in higher education as Philadelphia’s technological university and a leader in the integration of technology into academics. Drexel’s distinguished faculty and quality academic programs have been recognized internationally.

In 1983, Drexel was the first university to require all students to have access to a personal computer. In 2000, Drexel became the first major U.S. university to operate a campus-wide, fully wireless network. Yahoo! Internet Life ranks Drexel as the sixth “most wired” university in the nation and first in wireless access. U.S. News and World Report ranks Drexel as the top university for specialized programs in information systems, in the top 10 for library and information science, and among the top 25 best online MBA programs. Drexel University has approximately 16,000 current students enrolled in campus and online classes and more than 90,000 alumni. Drexel University launched its first online programs in 1997 in information science and nursing. Today, it offers more than 40 online degree and certificate programs in business, information science, engineering, nursing, education and general studies.

Through the agreement between SkillSoft and Drexel e-learning, those who have completed SkillSoft business and IT courses are eligible to receive up to 20 credits at no cost toward the completion of undergraduate degrees in communications, applied technology or general studies. SkillSoft students are also eligible for a 10-percent discount on tuition expenses for any Drexel University online degree or certificate program.

More than 2,000 SkillSoft courses are eligible for credit at Drexel University. To receive credit for a SkillSoft course, a student must obtain a grade of 70 percent or higher on the course test. Students receive one credit for every ten contact hours associated with a SkillSoft course. For instance, successful completion of SkillSoft’s Six Sigma course series, comprised of eight courses, would earn the learner a minimum of three college credits.
