National Association of State Boards of Accountancy CPE Program (NASBA)
Anyone interested in learning more about NASBA and their CPE program are encouraged to visit the NASBA website or e-mail CPE@nasba.org.
What is NASBA?
NASBA serves as a forum for the 54 U.S. boards of accountancy.
NASBA sponsors a variety of programs and services designed to
enhance the effectiveness of its member boards.
What is SkillSoft's affiliation?
SkillSoft Corporation is registered with the National
Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor
of continuing professional education on the National Registry
of CPE Sponsors. SkillSoft's Sponsor ID number is 106191.
What is the NASBA CPE program?
Most states require continuing professional education (CPE) for CPAs to maintain active licenses. The fundamental purpose
of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is to maintain and/or increase professional competence. The National Registry of CPE Sponsors is a program offered by NASBA to recognize sponsors who
offer CPE in accordance with nationally recognized standards. You can find more information at the CPE Registry website.
Individuals seeking CPE credits should contact the state board in which they hold their CPA license to determine the board's CPE requirements.
What is the NASBA Program Level?
NASBA requires CPE program sponsors to equate program content and level with the backgrounds of the intended participants. SkillSoft's NASBA-approved courses have been assigned the "Overview" program level, indicating that they provide a general review of a subject area from a broad perspective and may be appropriate for professionals at all organization levels.
Are prerequisites or any advance preparation required?
SkillSoft does not require prerequisites. No advance preparation is required.
What is the Instructional Method?
Eligible SkillSoft courses are considered Self-Study.

NOTE TO CPAs LICENSED IN NEW YORK: CPE credits for self-study courses must be in subject areas that are specifically approved by the New York State Board of Education and provided by a New York State-registered sponsor. SkillSoft is an approved CPE Sponsor for the State of New York (Sponsor #002526), and the following is the list of courses currently approved for CPE credits for New York licensed CPAs:

How do I register for this program?
This program is available for SkillSoft clients only. A SkillSoft client is typically a Global 5000 company or a Government or Educational Institution.
How are CPE credits determined?
CPE credits are measured by program length, with one 50-minute period equal to one CPE credit. One half-credit increments (equal to 25 minutes) are permitted after the first credit has been earned and time is rounded down to the nearest full or half credit hour.
CPE credit for self-study programs, such as SkillSoft courseware, is based on the results of pilot tests conducted to determine average completion time and therefore CPE value is noted on the SkillSoft NASBA course list.
Requirements to receive CPE:
- Course must be "Compliant" at time it is started. See SkillSoft NASBA Course List or SkillSoft Course Catalog/Order Form. Note: NASBA "Ready" means course is not yet available for CPE.
- Course must be taken in full, which means all topics must be accessed. Pre-assessment feature cannot be used when taking courses for CPE.
- Course must be completed within one year of first access.
- Score of 70% or greater
NOTE: State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit, and SkillSoft's CPE Registry sponsorship alone does not guarantee that its courses are valid for CPE credits in all states. It is important for learners to check with their state boards to confirm the board's CPE requirements.
How do I obtain my Certificate of Completion?
As a member of the NASBA Registry of CPE Sponsors, SkillSoft has a responsibility to verify that CPE requirements are met, issue a certificate that includes certain NASBA required information, and maintain course and certificant records for five years. NASBA certificates of completion are not the same as a general certificate of completion for the reasons just mentioned.
Individuals seeking CPE credit must be a SkillSoft client. To receive a certificate, complete the online Certificate Request Form and follow the instructions provided to submit your backup information to validate the successful completion of your course. We are not able to provide a certificate to you without first receiving the supporting documentation.
If you have completed a course that you believe to be NASBA approved and it does not appear on the online form, please contact our certificate processing office at certificaterequests@skillsoft.com for assistance.
Note to SkillPort users: If you have the SkillPort Credentialing Module enabled on your site, you do not need to submit a request for a Certificate of Completion. The Credentialing Module allows the learner to print out a formal Certificate of Completion for CPE credits.
Refunds and program cancellations are not applicable.
If you have any questions, or complaints, please contact cpe@skillsoft.com
