SkillSoft Announces KnowledgeCenter(TM) Portals Focused on IT Developer Communities

Initial Offering to Provide Opportunities for Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Visual C#.Net Developers to Hone Skills With Structured Practice

LAS VEGAS, May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SkillSoft PLC (Nasdaq: SKIL), a leading provider of content resources and complementary technologies for integrated enterprise learning, will develop a series of targeted portals for IT developers to help them gain and maintain expertise in mission-critical technology areas. SkillSoft KnowledgeCenter(TM) portals will initially focus on providing Microsoft VB .NET and Visual C#.NET developers with a wealth of coding practice projects, reference materials and certification-focused resources to support knowledge development in these critical Microsoft developer tools.

"KnowledgeCenters are meant to address the unique learning and development needs of IT developers," said Lee Ritze, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development for SkillSoft. "With targeted information resources and structured practice projects updated regularly, SkillSoft KnowledgeCenters will be a one-stop resource for entry-level or experienced IT development professionals for ongoing performance support and skill development."

Foremost, SkillSoft KnowledgeCenters will deliver structured practice coding opportunities that allow IT developers to gain practical, hands-on experience in applying programming skills to solve business challenges. The portal's Project Center will include practice projects that require the learner to complete a series of related coding exercises. Exercises will build upon one another to create a robust business application at the end of the project. Targeted feedback will help developers learn to interpret coding errors and direct them to detailed reference information for additional support.

Designed for developers of all experience and knowledge levels, from those new to a programming language to advanced developers who need to keep existing skills sharp, KnowledgeCenter portals will offer a broad scope of complementary resources, including targeted online reference materials from Books24x7(R); access to SkillSoft courseware and related content to support certification requirements; simulation practice labs; Learning Roadmaps; 24x7 online expert mentoring services; and featured topic spotlights, refreshed regularly, to provide an in-depth focus on particular topical areas.

In addition to Microsoft VB .NET and Visual C#.NET, SkillSoft plans to develop other IT-specific KnowledgeCenter portals to support other development environments. The company expects to release the Microsoft IT portals in the second half of 2005. To enhance its business skills offering, SkillSoft also plans to develop and deliver a KnowledgeCenter for project management later this year.

"In developing targeted KnowledgeCenter portals, SkillSoft is reaching out to the Microsoft developer community with a comprehensive resource to help them learn to create effective applications using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003," said Christopher Flores, group product manager for Visual Studio at Microsoft Corp. "With SkillSoft's large global corporate customer base, its KnowledgeCenter offering is a welcome addition to Microsoft's ongoing efforts to promote a rich range of learning and support options for the Microsoft developer."
