University of Iowa Introduces New Outreach Program, Continue to Learn with SkillSoft

Program Targets Alumni, Small Businesses, Professionals, and Students; Access Available to 300 Business and IT Courses and Project Management and Microsoft Certification Resources

NASHUA, N.H., Nov 9, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- The University of Iowa's Learning and Development organization, in conjunction with the university's Division of Continuing Education, just launched a new reseller program designed to bring ongoing business and IT skills development to university alumni, small businesses, individual professionals, and students. The program, called Continue to Learn with SkillSoft, is based on a one-year reseller agreement between SkillSoft PLC (NasdaqNM: SKIL) and the University of Iowa.

Continue to Learn with SkillSoft offers unlimited online access to a 300- course catalog for an annual subscription fee. Business topics covered in the outreach program's course catalog include negotiation, interpersonal communication, consulting, customer service, finance and accounting, and career planning. IT courses cover topics such as Linux, Unix, and web design; popular applications from Adobe, Macromedia, and other vendors; and Microsoft Server, Windows XP, and Microsoft Office 2003. The general catalog also contains six GoTrain courses covering health and safety issues such as defensive driving, workplace security, first aid, and back safety. Courses and other resources to prepare for Microsoft Certified System Administrator or Project Management Professional certification programs are available separately for subscription.

The University of Iowa also recently signed a three-year contract with SkillSoft for IT and business courseware and Books24x7's ITPro and BusinessPro Referenceware collections, used for faculty and staff training and on-the-job performance support. The learning resources are also used by students for supplementing course work and for development of job skills. The University's learning programs are hosted through SkillSoft's SkillPort learning management platform.

"This outreach program is an outgrowth of the proven success we've had internally with SkillSoft learning resources and its demonstrated appeal across diverse university audiences," said Maureen McCormick, director of UI Learning and Development. "Thanks to the interest and cooperative efforts of the Division of Continuing Education and the University's Alumni Association, we've designed a program to support the University's mission to extend its reach to Iowa communities and citizens. These courses offer individuals the opportunity to broaden critical skills -- important to their jobs or to personal career development -- at a very nominal cost."

"Throughout our relationship, the University of Iowa has continually demonstrated its forward-thinking approach to training, even in times of budget decreases," said David Vickrey, vice president of alliances and corporate development for SkillSoft. "UI's outreach program is an example of creative thinking applied to a strategic goal -- bringing a wider range of learning opportunities to citizens and communities throughout Iowa. We are proud to be part of this program."
