We are pleased to bring you a guest blog post today from one of our customers, Packaging Corporation of America (PCA). We want to thank PCA for sharing its story on how the company’s e-learning initiatives are helping the community.

At PCA, we pride ourselves on our people — people who care, people who make a difference and people you can trust. Those words are backed by our actions. We believe that every contribution we make today will result in a brighter tomorrow.
In the three months leading up to the holidays, and in the spirit of giving, PCA offers its employees an opportunity to participate in the “Help Yourself, Help Others” challenge. The challenge allows employees to enhance their knowledge base and contribute to communities in need via the completion of an online course. At the completion of each course, one of three charities receives a donation from PCA.
The year 2010 marked the fourth consecutive year of the program. The beneficiaries of the challenge remain unchanged: Reading is Fundamental, Adopt-A-Classroom and ProLiteracy. Nearly 1500 course completions were made in 2010, an increase of 283% over 2009. Participation is growing as employees realize that their individual involvement results in a larger contribution from PCA.
A teacher from one of the schools commented, “Thank you PCA for adopting my classroom. At a time when finances are dictated by the budget set in 2005, our school is particularly in need of funds. Your donation helped the entire second grade team. Without your help, we would have no money for supplies for the 2010–2011 school year. Thanks again for all you have done to support the education of America’s future.”
Due to budget cuts, many schools are struggling to provide our youth with the simple things to aid in their education. PCA is making an effort to help. The growing number of participants in the program reflects the true heart of PCA. We know the importance of a child’s education and will do our part to build a brighter future for our youth. We are committed to making a difference — and will continue to make efforts to pay it forward!
