What’s On Your Wish List This Year?

By Stephanie Pyle

Holiday wish listWith the holiday season upon us and the end of the year fast approaching, your organization may be shopping for a new Learning Management System (LMS).  Buying an LMS doesn’t have to be a daunting task if you know the right questions to consider when evaluating different solutions.  SkillSoft recently published an LMS buying checklist to help organizations make this decision. Below are some factors to consider from our list:

“How does the LMS deliver content/ courseware?”

As you decide on the types of learning programs your organization requires, you need to look for an LMS that can accommodate those programs.  Does the LMS provide a “SaaS” or cloud option? Can the LMS support courseware from different vendors as well as custom content? How well does the LMS incorporate other resources like books and videos?  SkillPort, SkillSoft’s LMS, is a SaaS solution so learners can access their content anytime, anywhere (even allowing download of courseware for offline access). If your learners are deployed in multiple remote locations, having a cloud-based solution will ensure they have the ability to utilize the training options. Tools built into SkillPort make it easy to incorporate additional courseware and build blended learning programs with any resource in the system.

“What types of reports does the system offer?”

You can’t invest in an LMS without having the right measurement tools in place so leaders and managers can see the value in learning. What reports are standard? Are they customizable? SkillPort allows administrators to quickly and accurately report on learner progress by providing usage statistics, progress reports, reminders, and more.  Reports can be exported in a number of formats and integrated into other systems if needed.

“What does the implementation process entail?”

So you’ve narrowed your results to a couple of contenders.  But how long is it really going to take to get the LMS up and running? Do you know the average implementation time and resources required?  SkillPort can be up and running at your organization in as little as a few weeks, connecting your learners to training quickly and efficiently.  During your deployment, you’ll have access to our support staff so you can minimize the impact on your internal IT resources.  We host our LMS for you so the system is reliable, robust and maintained by our team.
