Skillsoft customer the Odawa Casino Resort needed to ensure that learning opportunities were available to all employees, not simply those who worked first shift. Odawa also wanted to support performance management through relevant learning options. To fulfill that need, Odawa Casino chose a Skillsoft Select package containing a blend of courses on leadership development, performance management, communication skills, customer service and more. By utilizing the Skillport® LMS, Odawa employees could access learning regardless whether it was day or night.

In the program’s first year, Odawa was able to develop consistency in leadership and improve performance across all areas of the organization.

Owned and operated by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, Odawa Casino markets itself as Simply the BEST place to visit in northern Michigan, with an exhilarating combination of nearly 1,300 slot machines, a diversified mix of table games and a poker room. Other amenities include multiple dining venues, retail shops, a nightclub and lounge, plus an events center and a 137 room hotel.

“We’ve seen a leveling of skills in our managers,” says Katie Bauer, Odawa’s Development and Recruiting Manager. “Managers understand what’s expected of them now and all have the same training.” Casino employees have noticed the difference, especially in leaders who have completed the career enrichment program. Bauer says team members have come to HR and made comments like, “My manager is so much more open to team members—his management style has really improved.”
