Skillsoft Perspectives 2015 Day 1: Re-Imagining Organizational Culture with Data-Driven Solutions

By Hailey Hedge

Skillsoft kicked off its customer conference Perspectives 2015 today in sunny Orlando, Fla. Learning, talent and HR experts from around the world gathered at the Rosen Shingle Creek hotel to exchange best practices and learn about industry trends.

SVP of strategy and corporate development at Skillsoft John Ambrose and CEO of Tomorrow Mike Walsh started things off with a bang during the two opening keynote addresses this morning. They each shared their visions for how organizations must re-imagine their cultures and practices to embrace the new behaviors, expectations, and innovations proliferating in today’s mobile, social and digital word.

Ambrose took attendees on a journey of HR’s next game changer: “the Self-Developing Organization.”  He explained that, like Tesla Motors did for vehicles, Skillsoft is fundamentally transforming the whole experience for talent development, delivering learning programs that are employee-centric and occur naturally and contextually in the daily flow of work. When Big Data (like the IBM Research and Skillsoft joint-development effort) is layered in, the platform becomes self-learning so that the more that users interact, the smarter the system becomes about who they are and how they learn, helping learners achieve their maximum potential.

Walsh discussed how organizations should design their business for the 21st century to engage the next generation coming up in the workforce. He asserted that the most successful organizations will be quick to accept change and that while in the future every business will be a data-driven business, data is still very much connected to the human experience.  To continue to drive innovation, business leaders must understand how people will learn and interact with each other in the future (and now!) and put technology and data to work to challenge what they already know and help them improve employee and customer experiences.
