Upcoming webinar: Five Tips to Rescue your Workforce from the Digital Skills Gap

Xavier SillonBy Xavier Sillon

How much time does your workforce spend each day trying to master digital technology? Seconds, minutes or even hours? These are skills that are often take for granted, from being able to create spreadsheets on Microsoft Excel to editing on Photoshop or using an app.

As the pace of technology has changed dramatically over the past few years, particularly with the introduction of mobile technology, employers have been presented with a new reality, if their employees are not digitally adept, their businesses will face extinction.

With the era of digital transformation thrust upon us, we can no longer afford to hide from it. A recent study from UK digital charity, Go.On UK, discovered that in the UK alone, 12 million people are falling into the digital skills gap. This is an alarming figure, almost a quarter of the UK population is in danger of missing the digital revolution, and this has huge ramifications for the future of our economy – how will the future workforce keep pace?

How do we shift our learning standpoint? Simply put, we need to change the way we learn to have a bottom up approach to learning and not just a top down method. Learning is now all about catering to the needs of the employees and not the employer. In order to keep up with ever evolving development in technology learning requirements need to be addressed as they arise, before the gaps begin to form. Time is money. The future is being built around on the job learning, that can be accessed on any device, at any time and from any location – this is the key to filling the digital skills gap. Employees need to be able to access the right learning material, whatever they need, at the time of need – this is the true identity of just in time, on the job training.
