‘Tis the season to give back to our communities

By Melissa Galajda, PHR

Skillsoft_blog_givingEvery year, Skillsoft offices around the world participate in a variety of charitable activities. Here are some highlights from one of our locations.

This year, the Rochester, NY office sponsored 6 children from Hillside Family of Agencies. Hillside provides comprehensive health, education, and human services for children and families whose challenges threaten their ability to realize their full potential. They are guided by a deeply held belief that healthy children and strong families with opportunities to succeed are the foundation of a thriving community. For over 175 years, Hillside has put this belief into practice by partnering with communities across New York and Maryland to help them meet life’s complex challenges. We provided 3 gifts per child to help them share in holiday celebrations.

We also sponsored 2 families (6 people) from the YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County. The YWCA is a powerful resource in our community–they help women and girls who are faced with personal crises including homelessness and teen pregnancy. They also work hard to dispel stereotypes, promote racial justice, and empower women to regain control of their lives to get on the path to a healthy, successful future. We provided several gifts for each family member.

In addition, we collected items for Family Service Communities, which provides services for close to 125 low-income seniors. Many of them have no support from family or friends and often receive no gifts during the holiday season. We collected a box of some of the most needed items, including soap, deodorant, t-shirts, socks, sheets, and $10 or $15 gift cards, then delivered these items in time for the organization’s holiday celebrations.

How does your organization get involved with the community?
