Why organizations need original thinking: insight from Adam Grant

By Heide Abelli

When I joined Skillsoft as Vice President of Leadership and Business Skills in October, I had an agenda. I wanted to help organizations be more innovative. I wanted to open their minds and get their leaders and managers to think and behave differently.

Enter Adam Grant. Yes, that Adam Grant of the #1 bestseller Originals. His latest book explores how we can all get better at championing new ideas and he offers great advice regarding how to recognize and communicate our best ideas.

Perhaps even more importantly, he provides unique insights into how to build cultures that welcome diverse perspectives and honest feedback, why being the devil’s advocate often backfires, why contrarian opinions are useful even when they’re wrong, and why the values that help organizations prosper early on can sometimes thwart their growth later. So, what can you expect from Thursday’s event?

At the very minimum, you will get a framework that your organization can leverage to foster innovation at all levels. You will also have a means to benchmark how well you and your teams encourage original thinking–or inadvertently stifle discussions that could lead to game-changing breakthroughs.

But I think you will get so much more. Adam is an amazing thought leader.  Enjoy!
