A Partner’s Perspective on Perspectives

I’ve just returned from Vegas and Perspectives, the Skillsoft annual user conference. It wasn’t my first time, in fact that’s part of the appeal – revisiting and catching up with colleagues who now feel like old friends. All of us are still passionate and energized about eLearning, and to be honest, a little nervous sometimes about all the changes that have occurred and continue to happen in the industry.

As always, those of us involved with Skillsoft as channel partners convened on the first day at the Partner Summit and spent the afternoon discussing and exchanging ideas and experiences around our unique perspectives of the industry. It was time well spent as we, the channel partners, absorbed all the new content, platforms, enhancements, and the other ways Skillsoft is expanding along with what it means for our business and our customers.

This new razor sharp focus on the customer and the user experience that was for me the most fascinating and important element that I took away from this year’s conference. Skillsoft’s CEO Bill Donoghue spoke of it during his keynote and it was an idea that reverberated repeatedly over the two days – we must be ‘essential and worthy’ to our customers. Dan Cleveland, Skillsoft’s VP ofpartners and alliances, also emphasized it during the Partner Summit – customer engagement is key to channel partner success. Also, our business is a global one, and to continue to be successful we must think globally. Otherwise, it’s game over.

How our customer is changing was energetically conveyed to us by Jason Dorsey who left us all in no doubt about Millennials, their penchant for texting and why their huge college debt is delaying adulthood and how that impacts business.

What else did I take from Vegas?

I’m happy to say I felt the role of the channel partner as a part of the strategic fabric of Skillsoft has increased. I look forward to participating in both the design and execution of all plans. In short, Perspectives left me ready to share all the amazing new changes and prove the value our solutions provide to my customers.
