About the Authors

Cyndi Maxey has been an ASTD member since 1982 and a seven-time presenter at the ASTD International Conference. A professional speaker, she holds the Certified Speaking Professional designation—the National Speakers Association’s highest earned credential, held by fewer than 200 women internationally. She has owned Maxey Creative Inc. since 1989, specializing in communication that drives profitable performance.

She has published extensively with ASTD in the past, many of her articles have been published in T + D magazine, and she co-authored a 2007 ASTD Infoline on life and time management with Kevin E. O’Connor, as well as the ASTD Press book, Training from the Heart: Developing Your Natural Abilities to Inspire the Learner and Drive Performance on the Job (2000), with co-author Barry Lyerly.

Cyndi also co-authored It’s Your Move: Dealing Yourself the Best Cards in Life and Work (FT/Prentice-Hall, 2003) with Jill Bremer and Present Like a Pro: The Field Guide to Mastering the Art of Business, Professional, and Public Speaking (St. Martin’s Press, 2006) and Speak Up! A Woman’s Guide to Presenting Like a Pro (St. Martin’s Press/NYC, 2008) with Kevin E. O’Connor.

Cyndi addresses groups throughout the country on the topics of presentations, training, teambuilding, communication, and leadership.

Kevin E. O’Connor is a consultant, professional speaker, and author who works with medical and health care professionals who have been promoted to lead teams of their fellow professionals. He facilitates programs on communication, leadership, and creativity, especially in the medical and pharmaceutical fields and in other technical areas.

Kevin is the co-author with Cyndi Maxey of Present Like a Pro: A Field Guide to Mastering the Art of Business, Professional, and Public Speaking (St. Martin’s Press) and Speak Up: A Woman’s Guide to Presenting Like a Pro, also published by St. Martin’s. He is currently working on a book devoted to finding influence with colleagues who do not directly report to you.

Kevin teaches graduate and undergraduate students at Loyola University of Chicago and at Columbia College, the largest performing arts school in the country. Kevin is a faculty member for the American College of Physician Executives and for the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a consultant for the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education.

Kevin is a CSP (Certified Speaking Professional). Less than 570 persons in the world hold this honor for speaking excellence. He has three master’s degrees and is the author and co-author of seven books.

Kevin works extensively with schools and organizations for those who are blind and visually impaired and lives in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
