Readable Solutions Highlights for November 2024
"Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
HAPPY NOVEMBER!
November is National Gratitude Month, a time to reflect on all the things for which we are grateful. And while this sentiment may seem like something reserved for our personal lives, it is equally important to bring gratitude into the workplace.
Gratitude is more than just a positive emotion; it's a powerful tool that can transform workplace culture. A recent study by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley found that employees who practice gratitude in the workplace experience higher levels of job satisfaction, are more engaged, and are less likely to experience burnout. This is because gratitude fosters a sense of community, encourages collaboration, and helps us to focus on the good things in our work rather than the negatives.
But gratitude is not just about feeling good; it is also about taking action. Practicing gratitude in the workplace means acknowledging the hard work of our colleagues, expressing appreciation for their contributions, and recognizing the positive impact they have on our work. It means taking the time to say thank you, to give credit where it is due, and to celebrate our successes together.
One way to learn more about practicing gratitude is through reading. There are several books on the topic of gratitude in the Percipio learning platform, including a book summary of Leading With Gratitude: Eight Leadership Practices for Extraordinary Business Results, by Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton, The Power of Thanks: How Social Recognition Empowers Employees and Creates a Best Place to Work, a book by Eric Mosley and Derek Irvine, and Grateful Leadership: Using the Power of Acknowledgment to Engage All Your People and Achieve Superior Results, a book by Judith W. Umlas, to name a few These books offer practical tips and insights into how we can cultivate gratitude in our lives and in the workplace.
So this National Gratitude Month, make a commitment to bring gratitude into the workplace. Let's take the time to acknowledge the hard work of our colleagues, to express our appreciation for their contributions, and to celebrate our successes together. And strive to learn more about practicing gratitude through reading, so that we can all benefit from the transformative power of gratitude in our lives and in our work.
