Assessment Methods in Selection, Recruitment and Performance is a comprehensive guide that examines the use of formal selection and recruitment methods and argues for their use within performance management systems.

The use of assessment centres, psychometric testing and structured interviews are discussed and guidance on their practical application included. Robert Edenborough further argues that these methods should also be used to determine competencies and to feed into an integrated performance management system.

A thorough examination of the principles underpinning assessment methods along with practical applications are provided and includes:

  • the argument for linking selection and performance management
  • psychometric testing – history, statistics and standards, tests and selection, practice and implementation
  • assessment centres – scope and use, exercise types, assessment centre technology
  • interviewing – structure in interviewing, interview models, criterion- and competency-based interviews, critical incident interviews and feedback
  • performance management – background and approaches to measurement, one-to-one interactions in performance management, supplier and client relationships in assessment and performance management
  • information and communication technology – use in assessment and performance management
  • current issues and future trends.

Packed with case examples, figures and illustrations Assessment Methods in Selection, Recruitment and Performance is essential reading for Human Resource practitioners and line managers.
