The Impostor Syndrome is a well-researched, well-documented phenomenon that occurs when successful and intelligent professionals feel they do not deserve their accomplishments and that they have faked their way to success. This syndrome can cause negative stress, fear, anxiety, loss of confidence, and can eventually lead to derailment. However, by overcoming inaccurate beliefs about yourself and your abilities, you can overcome the Impostor Syndrome and enjoy a more fulfilling career.

About the Author

Portia Mount is senior vice president, global marketing, and chief of staff at the Center for Creative Leadership, where she is responsible for leading CCL’s branding, social media, marketing, and communications strategy worldwide. She is also a highly rated feedback coach for CCL programs and maintains an active social media presence with her popular blog Boss Mom, a lifestyle and career advice blog for working mothers. Portia holds an M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA in Management from Wake Forest University.

Susan Tardanico is the founding partner and CEO of the Authentic Leadership Alliance LLC, and Executive in Residence at the Center for Creative Leadership. She has completed graduate work at Harvard University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
