Managing is difficult and doing it well is difficult. The purpose of this book is to provide basic manager skills to both current and new managers. Users learn how to build training programs that allow managers to become effective when dealing with the people and activities they manage each day. Topics covered include basic leadership skills, coaching, motivation techniques, performance appraisals, effective presentation and meeting skills and many others.

About the Author

Christee Gabour Atwood is a speaker, trainer, and knowledge management adviser who specializes in helping companies share the knowledge in their organizations. She has worked with corporations, associations, Fortune 500 companies, and governmental entities in analyzing, developing, and presenting programs to develop communication and leadership skills. Recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award at Baton Rouge Community College, Atwood's background includes radio personality, television host and anchor, and newspaper and magazine columnist. She also has served as executive director for state associations, editor/publisher of various trade and professional magazines, and CEO of The Communications Workshop. Atwood is a master facilitator for the Small Business Training Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and has received training certifications from various organizations, including Franklin Covey and AchieveGlobal. And, because she believes humor is a vital part of effective communications, she also teaches "But UnSeriously Folks!"—a course on the effective use of humor in the workplace, which is based on her experiences in stand-up comedy. Her other books include Succession Planning Basics (ASTD Press 2007) and Three Feet Under: Journal of a Midlife Crisis, which is a humorous look at the episodes of midlife. Manager Skills Training is Atwood's third book with ASTD Press. Her other current ASTD Press title is Succession Planning (2007) and Presentation Skills Training (2008).
