About the Author

Gary R. Heerkens, PMP, CPM, MPM, CIPM, CPC, MMC, CBM, CIPA, PEng, MBA is the president of Management Solutions Group, a firm that provides progressive and effective project management training and consulting solutions. Before establishing Management Solutions Group, he managed projects for Eastman Kodak for over 20 years and later served as staff assistant to Kodak’s director of project management, developing and delivering project management training, developing project process methodology, and consulting within Kodak.

Mr. Heerkens is a long-standing seminar provider for Project Management Institute’s SeminarsWorld series, and is the project management education provider for the Purchasing Management Association of Canada. He has been invited to speak at nearly every PMI Global Congress since 1998—including encore requests in 2007 and 2008.

Mr. Heerkens is a contributing editor to PMI’s PM Network magazine, writing on “the business of projects.” In addition to this book, he authored The Business-Savvy Project Manager, published in 2006.

Mr. Heerkens is an active member of several professional societies, including PMI, IAPPM, APBM, AAPM, and IPMA, where he has received a number of professional certifications; he has been honored as a Fellow by IAPPM and by AAPM. He was president of the PMI Rochester Chapter from 1998-2001, and was reelected president in 2005-2006. He’s a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and holds an MBA from RIT.
