If you want to improve your efficiency or profitability of the organization for which you work, learn about the latest management technique, or improve a basic skill "like making a presentation or thinking laterally" then this book is not going to help you one tiny bit. If, on the other hand, you want to excel, progress or even just survive in the jungle of the modern office, then this is very much the book for you.

Surviving Office Politics can make the difference between success and failure, between top management and office junior, between a life of jet setting and excitement and total boredom in a job where the most challenging task is polishing the transparencies in window envelopes, for instance.

About the Author

The author, Patrick Forsyth, is perfectly qualified to write this book, being totally apolitical and therefore able to approach the topic from a uniquely objective point of view. He runs the independent firm Touchstone Training and Consultancy based in the United Kingdom.

He began his career with a major publishing group, where failing to become an editor, he escaped into sales, sales management and marketing positions, and subsequently worked for a professional management institute and an export advisory service.

He has been in the consultancy business for many years having started young and joining a major consultancy company in 1970. During this time he planned his revenge on the world of publishing—failing to become an editor, he settled on writing as a suitable response. Since then he has had more than 50 different business titles published on topics including marketing, selling, time management and making presentations. He also has books translated into more than 20 languages.

His consulting work includes training and other assignments in a variety of industries and in different parts of the world. He has been a regular visitor to South East Asia for many years, working with local companies and training organisers such as management institutes.
