About the Authors

Jo-Ann C. Byrne, R.N., B.S., M.H.S.A., is a registered nurse with over thirty- five years of experience in consulting, hospital, and military arenas. Ms. Byrne is adept at project management, organizational and process re-engineering, program development, training and education, and change management. She is an effective communicator, skilled facilitator, and gifted educator who is talented at consulting with executive management and physician audiences to transform concepts into effective, measurable processes that address organizational change.

She has a diploma in nursing from Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing in Massachusetts, a bachelor's degree from the University of St. Francis in Illinois, and a master's degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Ms. Byrne became interested in leadership development while serving in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. She continued to gather and design leadership development tools throughout her many years of consulting. Her tools and techniques have been used in multiple facilities. She has spoken on topics related to leadership and management development at national as well as international conferences. She lives in Florida, where she is currently the director of education at a healthcare facility.

Richard T. Rees, Ed.D., holds a bachelor of science degree from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, with a major in history and a minor in English. He also holds a master's degree and doctorate in educational administration from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Following a career as a high school teacher, coach, and administrator, he spent ten years as a professor at Montclair State University and Wilkes University.

Since 1980, Dr. Rees has been involved in healthcare education and training. He currently is president of Rees and Associates, Inc., a private consulting firm centering on learning technology, leadership development, team development, and educational efficiencies, especially in small to mid-sized organizations.

In addition, Dr. Rees has led over three hundred seminars centering on management and organizational issues and has been a presenter at numerous national and regional meetings. As an adjunct professor, Dr. Rees has taught doctoral level courses in organizational theory and behavior and human resource development and has published numerous articles in leading research and professional journals. Further, Dr. Rees has served as an organization development and restructuring consultant to several major healthcare organizations across the country.
