The fundamental components and concepts that comprise networking represent a collection of technology and resources used to deliver a single web page or fuel an entire enterprise. In this course, you'll explore the fundamentals of networking technology, beginning with the building blocks of networking, the various devices that can be connected to networks, and the basics of network infrastructure. You'll go onto discover the role of media in networking, the purpose of switches, access points, and routers, network services, types, and topologies. Finally, you'll learn about peer-to-peer and client-server networking, virtual computing, and cloud computing. This course was originally created by Global Knowledge (GK).

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Describe what constitutes a computer network and the type of information that can be shared
Identify the three main components of networks and their respective purpose
Describe the various types of networking end-user devices and how the availability of devices has expanded to much more than desktop computers
Identify common types of networking resources including servers, peripherals, and storage devices
Identify the three main media types used in networking
Describe the purpose of switches and access points, including wireless access points, in computer networking
Identify the purpose of routers, the types of routers, and how they can be used as residential gateways
Describe the purpose of network services and the various kinds of services
Identify the different types of networks, including lans, pans, cans, mans, and wans, and when they should be used
  • Describe the purpose of network topologies, including point-to-point, ring, mesh, and star topologies
Identify the purpose of peer-to-peer networking and when it's appropriate to use peer-to-peer networking
Describe the purpose of client-server networking and when it's appropriate to use client-server networking
Identify the purpose of hypervisors and why virtual computing offers significant advantages over traditional hardware infrastructure
Describe how desktop virtualization can be leveraged to offer significant advantages over traditional single-os systems
Define cloud computing and the benefits of adopting cloud computing solutions
Identify the various types of services offered by cloud computing environments
