Computer languages can be intimidating to those who haven't use them before, but once you learn how to recognize the basic components of programming, it will be much easier to begin writing your own programs. In this course, you'll discover the basics of programming languages, beginning with the file format used in programming, and basic features of various languages. Then you'll learn about the basic coding process, compilers, interpreters, and browsers, and the basic process of testing your programs. Finally, you'll learn about high-level languages and the various elements that comprise all computer programming languages. This course was originally created by Global Knowledge (GK).

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Discuss how plain text is used in software programming
Describe how different file extensions are used to determine how a file is handled by an operating system
Discuss how there are different computer languages, how they may share syntax rules or differ in syntax, and how computer languages are used for different purposes
Describe the purpose of integrated development environments (ides) and list some well-known ides
Discuss the basic coding process of writing code, testing it, and writing it again
Describe the basic purpose of compilers, interpreters, and browsers in computer programming
Discuss the iterative process involved with running, debugging, and correcting software
Describe the purpose of high-level languages and their basic features
  • Discuss how computer languages can basically become readable as you spend more time with them
Describe how to identify comments and literals in computer code
Discuss the basic components of programming languages, keywords, variables, functions, and data types
Describe the purpose of delimiters and operators in computer programming
Discuss keywords and how they vary from language to language
Describe how code editors can assist in computer programming by providing features such as syntax highlighting
