Safety Short: Anthrax

Anthrax is a serious infectious disease caused by spore-forming bacteria called Bacillus anthracis. These bacteria occur naturally in soil. In many parts of the world, anthrax spores commonly infect animals, including wild animals and domestic animals such as cattle. Less often, they also infect people.
