Ending Support for Internet Explorer

Skillsoft previously announced the end of support for Internet Explorer 11 as of September 7, 2021. Since September 7, learners using Internet Explorer may have encountered a degraded experience, and our customer support team no longer fields questions related to Internet Explorer 11. If your learners or administrators are currently using Internet Explorer, please continue reading to understand how the change impacts your use of Skillsoft products.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR SKILLSOFT PERCIPIO USERS

Due to the need to address security vulnerabilities, Skillsoft determined that the Percipio platform will cease to function entirely with Internet Explorer as of December 10, 2021. After December 10, Percipio users must use a supported browser. Please expect similar announcements for our other products, including Skillport, as we continue to ensure the security of these products.

While we will make every effort to hold to the date of December 10, 2021, there remains the chance that a need to address additional future security vulnerabilities will force us to discontinue support for Internet Explorer on an earlier date. We promise to communicate such a change promptly.

If you have not already done so, we recommend you share this information with your IT organization to learn about their plans for replacing IE, verify that all users' needs are covered, and inform them of Skillsoft's schedule.

FAQ - What Skillsoft product do you use?

  • What is the Percipio experience for Internet Explorer users after September 7, 2021?

Since September 7, Skillsoft has released new features and product enhancements that may not be compatible with Internet Explorer and could impact learners and administrators. Testing for compatibility with Internet Explorer ended, meaning Skillsoft no longer monitors issues related to the Internet Explorer experience. Additionally, the Skillsoft support team no longer addresses issues explicitly associated with Internet Explorer. Skillsoft will continue supporting and testing the following browsers (both the current version and one prior version): Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple's Safari.

  • What is the content integration experience for Internet Explorer users after September 7, 2021?

Since September 7, Skillsoft has released new features and product enhancements that may not be compatible with Internet Explorer and could impact learners and administrators. Testing for compatibility with Internet Explorer ended, meaning Skillsoft no longer monitor issues related to the Internet Explorer experience.

Note for Compliance Content integrations: Skillsoft recommends the learner enable Web Accessibility from the intermediate page presented at course launch and use Google's Chrome browser for content playback. The messaging within the Web Accessibility selection changed slightly to inform users that Google Chrome provides the most accessible experience with Skillsoft content.

For more information, see System Requirements.

  • What is the Percipio Compliance experience for Internet Explorer users after September 7, 2021?

Skillsoft tests the learner and admin experiences with the Percipio browser matrix, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple's Safari browser (macOS only). We do not anticipate any meaningful change in the experience as a result of IE's removal. For accessibility, we recommend the learner use Google's Chrome browser for content playback or Compliance content and enable the Web Accessibility checkbox within the user interface. We expect the Microsoft Edge browser to work similarly.

For more information, see System Requirements.

  • What is the Skillport experience for Internet Explorer users after September 7, 2021?

We do not anticipate any immediate changes to the learner or admin experiences due to users accessing Skillport from another supported browser. However, Skillsoft cannot predict future IE changes, which may provide a degraded experience in Skillport. For a list of supported browsers, please visit our Knowledge Base.

Web Accessibility Users: Skillsoft recommends users enable the Web Accessibility checkbox during login and use Google's Chrome browser for content playback in Skillport. Updated site messaging informs users that Google Chrome provides the most accessible experience with Skillsoft content.

  • What is the OLSA experience for Internet Explorer users after September 7, 2021?
Skillsoft tests OLSA launches with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple's Safari (macOS only) web browsers. We do not anticipate any meaningful change in the experience due to users accessing the platform with one of these browsers. For accessibility, we recommend the learner enable the Web Accessibility from the intermediate page presented at course launch (if OLSA configured for accessibility) and use Google's Chrome browser for content playback. The messaging within the Web Accessibility selection changed slightly to inform users that Google Chrome provides the most accessible experience with our content.
  • What is the Skillsoft content management experience for Internet Explorer users after September 7, 2021?
The Skillsoft Course Manager (SCM) leverages older technologies, including Java, dependent on Internet Explorer (IE11). The SCM is a mature solution and has been in maintenance for several years. Many of our customers who formally used the SCM have transitioned to Percipio and consume content offline from their mobile devices using the Percipio app for iOS and Android. While we do not anticipate any immediate impacts to the SCM once this new browser policy is in place, we do not expect to develop or maintain it further. Once IE is formally retired by Microsoft, the SCM will no longer work.
