Leadership & Business Roadmap - May 2022
“There is a powerful driving force inside every human being that, once unleashed, can make any vision, dream, or desire a reality.” – Anthony Robbins
May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, recognizing the invaluable contributions, influences, and achievement of these communities. According to Pew-Research, the AAPI community—individuals who trace their roots to more than 20 different countries—is the fastest growing racial or ethnic group in the U.S. Skillsoft honors these diverse populations through action.
As featured in OFF THE SHELF below, our library features authors, subject matter experts, and thought leaders from around the world, including the AAPI community. (A personal favorite is “Fast-Track Your Leadership Career” written by the General Manager for Leadership and Business, Rashim Mogha). We also continue our global commitment to localization, including an exciting initiative we are undertaking to eventually launch automated closed captioning of up to 16 languages within our Percipio platform.
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental Wellness is a state of well-being that allows people to cope with daily pressures, increase productivity, maximize their potential, and contribute to the community. Workplace mental health is a recent top priority. Promoting mental health in the workplace is no longer a blessing, but a necessity.
Millions of people across the globe—including within the AAPI community—experience what it’s like to live with a mental illness. Mental Health Awareness is all about finding practical ways to deal with stress and improve resilience, regardless of individual circumstances. This initiative was launched to raise awareness about mental health. Throughout the month of May, Skillsoft recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month. We invite you to join us in celebrating and lifting spirits by watching, reading, or listening to any of our resources.
Be sure to check out our virtual book club, OFF THE SHELF which features a bookshelf of resources that can be used to improve mental wellness, mindfulness, resiliency, and overall wellbeing.
Additionally, May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, during which OFF THE SHELF is featuring a bookshelf of resources that celebrate the myriad contributions that Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans make to our society as authors and thought leaders.
The OFF THE SHELF monthly selection for May is The New World of Work: Shaping a Future That Helps People, Organizations and Our Societies to Thrive by Peter Cheese | Kogan Page, © 2021.
Written by a leading voice in the people profession, The New World of Work takes an evidence-based approach to provide practical advice on how the business and employees can succeed. It covers how to combat stalling productivity, poor wellbeing and the increase in mental health issues in the workplace as well as the need for agile learning, ways to close the skills gap and a refreshingly realistic look at the impact of technology. This book also includes guidance on how to build a business which is responsible, trustworthy and transparent, is based on the principles of 'good work' and is one that employees are proud to work for.
Be sure to visit OFF THE SHELF to leverage the discussion questions and start a meaningful conversation with your colleagues and teams.
This selection is available on Percipio as an e-book, an audiobook, and a book summary.
