Leadership and Business Roadmap - January 2023
Welcome to 2023!
For me, January seemed to slide into the room like Kramer from Seinfeld—awkward , sideways, and a bit disheveled. After getting over the flu and putting the holidays away for another season, it was January 1st before I knew it. For many, the start of the new year means New Year's Resolutions. But how many of us make resolutions only to falter a week or two (or less) later? Instead, how about setting some goals this month for the year ahead—like learning a new skill, or striving to block out time for yourself each day to meditate or think strategically? By definition, a goal is something you want to achieve, whereas a resolution is something you want to change. If you have goals you'd like to pursue in 2023, you're in luck! Below we share some book club resources to help you focus on fulfilling your most important objectives, keep your momentum going, and realize your success. You can also visit the Goal Setting Channel in Percipio for courses, books, summaries, audiobooks, and a Skill Benchmark assessment.
For leaders, January is also a time of strategic goal-setting for the year ahead. Are you focusing on ESG initiatives, or investing in AI technologies? Perhaps mental health in your workforce will be your focus for the year, or adapting to the acceleration of the Gig Economy. The same mindset we apply for our personal goals can be utilized for our team and organizational goals—they all begin with an action plan. So what's yours?
I hope you find value in this newsletter and leverage it in your learning solutions.

Keep an eye out for that toward the end of this month.
Monthly Middle Monday Mindful Meditation
Just a reminder that our Monthly Middle Monday Mindful Meditation launches this month on January 23rd. These are 30-minute sessions with Zen meditation practitioner, Florian Brody, where he explains what mindful meditation is, why it's important, and how it can help increase your self-awareness and manage stress. Then Brody will lead attendees through a guided meditation, leaving a few minutes for a Q&A session afterward.
Leadercamps and Live Events
Don't miss our next Leadercamp On January 26th from 12 PM - 1 PM EST, Becoming Customer-Centric with Design Thinking with Randal Vegter. Randal is a coach at Stanford's d.School, facilitating design thinking workshops, and he advises a Venture Studio that has design at its core.
In this Leadercamp, attendees will be able to understand their customers' needs at a deep level and create processes and products that meet those needs. They will avoid the wasted time and effort of creating something that doesn't actually solve a real problem.
OFF THE SHELF BOOK CLUB
This month, we recognize National Stress Awareness. Stress can sometimes motivate us to do our jobs better. Anyone who excels by that surge of nervous adrenaline when under pressure to meet a looming deadline knows this well. But stress can also be debilitating, causing serious mental and physical illnesses. All month long, Skillsoft’s virtual book club, OFF THE SHELF is featuring a bookshelf of resources designed to help you manage the stress in your life, learn wellness techniques, and give you a sense of peace and control.
As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, January is the perfect time to identify some goals you'd like to achieve in the next year. Understanding the importance of goals and the techniques involved in setting achievable goals paves the way for success. Your goals give you the direction and motivation to achieve happiness and fulfillment in your life.
Whether you're setting personal goals or professional goals, be sure to check out the bookshelf we've curated to help you get started, gain momentum, and celebrate your successes.
