“This is the best darn workshop I have ever attended.” Wouldn’t it be great if you heard comments like this at the end of every training session you present?

That’s the goal of the newly revised and updated Training Trilogy, Third Edition – to provide the classroom trainer with practical and real-world ideas for designing and delivering training that meets the real needs of participants and keeps them excited, engaged and learning.

The book begins where your job as a trainer does – with needs assessment. Part one examines basic statistics and other vital information on how to design surveys and conduct interviews. You’ll also learn ways to present your needs assessment information to management and associates.

The next step is designing the program. Part two looks at how to create fun learning experiences that keep learners involved, interested, challenged and motivated throughout the training session.

The book ends with the steps to becoming effective in the classroom. You’ll learn about all the things required to prepare for your training program and how to involve the participants – from beginning to end of your presentation.

About the Author

Dick Leatherman has 45 years of teaching experience, first in the military, then in business, next as a highly successful training consultant, and finally in academia. He taught new air force recruits how to maintain electronic equipment on fighter aircraft. He served as a manager of Education and Training for the 3M Company, and then spent 25 years as the CEO of International Training Consultants, Inc. (ITC). He successfully grew ITC from a one-person organization to a major producer of training packages, videos, and assessment instrumentation, and served as the chairman of the board. He taught as an adjunct at George Washington University, and on his retirement from ITC, taught full time at the University of Richmond, where he was the academic program director of Human Resource Management for the School of Continuing Studies. On retiring from the university, Dick now divides his time between his homes in Costa Rica and Richmond, Virginia, doing what he loves—writing about his experiences.

Dick is widely recognized for his pioneering work in the areas of trainer training, employee development, and needs assessment instrumentation. His published instrument, the Leatherman Leadership Questionnaire (LLQ) is the premiere test for measuring leadership knowledge.
