Readable Solutions Highlights for May 2024

May 15, 2024 | by Amy Cantin, Manager - Content Development

"It's a great blessing if one can lose all sense of time, all worries, if only for a short time, in a book."

― Nella Last

May is Get Caught Reading Month, and as busy professionals, it's important to take a moment to prioritize our mental health and indulge in the benefits of reading. The demands of work can often leave us feeling stressed and overwhelmed, and reading has been shown as an effective tool in managing those feelings.

Whether you prefer physical books or digital formats, it's easy to participate in this month-long celebration. Just pick up a book, e-reader, or audiobook and start reading wherever you go - during your commute, on your lunch break, or even before bed. Not sure what to start reading? Here are a few of my favorites that were recently released on Percipio.

  • The Perfect Story: How to Tell Stories That Inform, Influence, and Inspire by Karen Eber
  • The Crazy Busy Cure: The Productivity Book for People with No Time for Productivity Books  by Zena Everett
  • The AI Dilemma: 7 Principles for Responsible Technology by Juliette Powell and Art Kleiner
  • Rebooting Your Brain: Using Motivational Intelligence to Adjust Your Mindset, Reach Your Goals, and Realize Unlimited Success by David Naylor
  • The First Rule of Mastery: Stop Worrying about What People Think of You by Michael Gervais and Kevin Lake

Don't forget to encourage your colleagues to join in! Reading can be a great way to build connections and foster a sense of community among coworkers. How about launching a company book club? Or simply follow Skillsoft's OFF THE SHELF for monthly bookshelves and selections, as well as thought-provoking discussion questions to keep the conversation lively.

So join me in celebrating this month-long event by diving into a good book and encouraging others to do the same. Take that well-deserved break from being always "on" and allow yourself to get caught up in some quiet reading time.

This month, OFF THE SHELF is featuring a bookshelf to raise awareness about mental health in order to help reduce stigma and encourage individuals to seek help and support.

Visit OFF THE SHELF today to leverage the discussion questions for any of these bookshelf selections.

Resilience, flexibility, and agility are all important traits that can help individuals and organizations adapt to change and overcome challenges. Throughout May, OFF THE SHELF is featuring a bookshelf to help you navigate through tough times and come out stronger, more adaptable, and better equipped to handle future challenges.

Get Caught Reading Month began in 1999 by the Association of American Publishers to promote the joy of reading for all ages. It’s meant to encourage people to find the time to read for pleasure and to celebrate the benefits of reading. All month long, OFF THE SHELF is featuring a bookshelf to guide you in enhancing your personal growth and  development, finding happiness, and leading a more satisfying life.
