Skillsoft and SumTotal Customers Cox Enterprises and PSAV Recognized in Chief Learning Officer’s Learning in Practice Awards

Recipients demonstrate excellence in the design and delivery of workforce learning and development programs

Boston – January 14, 2020 – Chief Learning Officer recently recognized Skillsoft and SumTotal Systems customers in its annual Learning in Practice Awards program. Cox Enterprises and PSAV were honored for delivering innovative and effective learning and development programs to their workforces. Leveraging Skillsoft content and SumTotal’s learning management system, both organizations have utilized learning and development to transform skill acquisition, career development and employee engagement on a massive scale.

Since 2003, the Learning in Practice Awards have recognized learning leaders who demonstrate excellence in the design and delivery of workforce learning and development programs. Recipients embody a combination of qualities such as leadership, vision, business acumen and strategic alignment while judges include senior practitioners, learning and development experts, Chief Learning Officer editors and past award winners.

“Learning and development are becoming increasingly critical business priorities in today’s digital economy given their impact on performance, talent retention and employee engagement. Our Learning in Practice winners are deploying state-of-the-art learning and talent development programs that provide tangible benefits to their organizations and employees,” said Ashley St. John, Managing Editor, Chief Learning Officer.

Cox Enterprises | Excellence in E-Learning | Bronze

For the innovative and effective delivery of a state-of-the-art E-Learning program, Cox Enterprises, Skillsoft and SumTotal accepted the Excellence in E-Learning award. Together, Cox Enterprises, Skillsoft and SumTotal developed a modern, user-friendly and mobile Learn@Cox learning program that delivers anywhere, anytime learning to Cox’s 55,000 U.S. employees. In 2019, the Cox team focused efforts on deploying learning in the flow of work capabilities for employees across all of Cox’s businesses in the U.S.

Learn@Cox, which leverages SumTotal’s LMS and Skillsoft’s Leadership & Business, Technology & Developer and Compliance libraries, is empowering Cox to close its IT skills gap, boost leadership competencies, spark innovation and enable talent mobility. The overall business impact of this consumer-grade learning experience is most visible in the productivity gains by having relevant learning available within a few clicks. More effective professional development means more time spent learning instead of searching for learning, solving problems together and delivering on business objectives. To meet the individual learning needs and preferences of all employees, Cox leverages a wide variety of learning modalities, including videos, audiobooks, books and courses, resulting in improved engagement.

“It’s an honor to receive Chief Learning Officer’s validation recognizing the excellence of Cox Enterprises’ new learning experience,” said Marienne Bernardes, Director of Enterprise Learning & Development, Cox Enterprises. “Since its launch, Learn@Cox has had a monumental impact on our ability to build the right skills and competencies in our people, now and for the future, while also enabling us to move towards our goal of achieving a culture of continual learning. By deploying a more effective professional development program, we have been able to cultivate independent learners and better achieve critical business objectives.”

PSAV | Talent Management | Silver

Derek Blake, Divisional Vice President, Global Learning & Development at PSAV, was honored for his instrumental role in building an innovative career pathing program that integrates into broader talent management initiatives. PSAV worked closely with Skillsoft and SumTotal to identify critical skills gaps and deploy 13 role-based development programs designed to build skills, competencies and confidence for team members in their current role. For employees interested in transitioning to a new role, the joint Skillsoft and SumTotal solution directs learners to the content and courses they must complete in their personalized Individual Development Plan to acquire the necessary skills for aspirational roles within PSAV. With the Percipio Mobile App, employees can access learning anytime, anywhere and on any mobile device, enabling its workforce to engage in learning at their convenience.

Within 60 days, 1,500+ team members selected a career path and started to work on their development plan. Today, more than 2,500 of PSAV’s 10,000 team members are leveraging the career development program to identify aspirational roles and build the skill sets required to achieve these goals. Additionally, employee engagement scores in the area of team member development increased 6 percent year-over-year after this program was deployed.

“Supporting PSAV’s 10,000 global team members’ ability to grow and prosper has been a major objective across the business,” said Blake. “By systematizing career planning with the help of Skillsoft and SumTotal, we are now empowering team members to drive career development conversations with managers, opening the door to advancement opportunities and enabling greater talent agility for the entire organization. We are grateful for Chief Learning Officer’s recognition as this award is indicative of talent development’s significance across the business and the far-reaching benefits of a highly engaged workforce.”

Learning in Practice winners were announced during an awards luncheon Monday, October 14 at Chief Learning Officer’s Fall Symposium in Chicago.

“We are thrilled to see our customers Cox Enterprises and PSAV recognized by Chief Learning Officer for effectively accelerating learning and critical skills development at a time when continual learning is essential to driving innovation and competitive advantage,” said Ron Hovsepian, Executive Chairman, Skillsoft. “Receiving a Learning in Practice award for Excellence in E-Learning is an immense honor, particularly as the award validates Skillsoft and SumTotal’s commitment to helping people and organizations achieve their fullest potential through learning and development.”
